Smart Jobs: Onboarding in practice

Onboarding in practice: aligning professional approaches with real experience

The first weeks in a new job play a crucial role in shaping confidence, performance, and long-term engagement. Understanding how onboarding works in practice requires bringing together both professional perspectives and real employee experiences. By connecting these viewpoints, it becomes possible to identify what truly supports successful integration and where additional guidance is needed.

The EMINA Career Guidance Foundation invites labour market experts and individuals with recent onboarding experience to join a joint focus group within the Smart Jobs project.

The discussion will bring together HR professionals, employability experts and individuals with first-hand onboarding experience to explore how onboarding processes work in practice and how they can be improved.

The discussion will explore:

  • common challenges faced during onboarding
  • situations where support is most needed but often missing
  • practical strategies and approaches that have proven effective
  • factors influencing early adaptation and workplace integration
  • the role of innovative tools, including AI-based solutions

Why join?

  • Contribute to the development of practical tools supporting new employees
  • Help design more responsive and realistic onboarding practices
